Variable label: Standard Region (i.e. 1974 boundaries) of usual residence at 1971 Census, with inappropriate cases deleted and an option to show Inner and Outer London separately

Derived from: STRGX7; also CODI7 to distinguish London from rest of South East, and URAREA7 to replace a few missing values. All these are in table ME71.
Study group: People usually resident in England or Wales at 1971 Census
Exclusions: Three people coded -9 at STRGX7 are dropped because they are usually resident outside England and Wales, or they were enumerated as visitors and their usual address is not given.
Likely uses: Work on regional migration or on London. Compatible with REGION81, REGION91 and REGION01.
